Costa Rica is a republic in Southern Central America, geographically located South of Nicaragua and North of Panama. The water boundaries of the country are the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
<p align="justify">Costa Rica is without contest one of the most biologically rich countries in the world. As a result of ambitious land conservation programs, the country has risen to become a leader in eco-tourism. For its size, Costa Rica is a relatively diverse region. A central valley is surrounded by rugged highlands, made up of several mountain ranges and active volcanoes. And nearby on both sides lie coastal sandy beaches and marshy swamps. A rainy season, lasting from May to December, stimulates the lush growth of the forests.Among other natural wonders, travelers from all over the world are attracted to the amazing flora and fauna, which include over 1,000 species of orchids and over 850 species of birds. The people of Costa Rica, called “Ticos,” are largely of Spanish descent. Spanish is the official language, though English is widely spoken. Roman Catholicism is the state religion; however, the constitution guarantees freedom of worship. Since 1948, Costa Rica has been without an army.Agriculture is important to the economy of Costa Rica. Coffee and bananas have led the country as valuable exports. In addition, recent efforts to diversify the economy have emphasized raising livestock.

The Costa Rican diet relies heavily on rice and beans. A common breakfast is gallo pinto, a rice and bean dish served with onions, peppers and cilantro. Restaurants typically have a full menu and also serve daily dishes called casados.</p>
